Benefits of a Ductless Mini-Split System

Whether you don’t have a functional duct system; just need air conditioning in one part of your home, such as a home addition or small office; or want to avoid using window or portable AC units; a ductless system may provide the ideal solution for energy-efficient cooling.

Consider a ductless mini-split system for:

  • Temperature Control – Each indoor air handler is independently controlled, so you can set different temperatures in specific areas of your house. This is beneficial for cooling rooms that are in use without wasting energy cooling empty spaces.
  • Energy Efficiency – Ductless mini-splits are energy efficient and can use up to 25% less energy to cool a space than a central air conditioning system. The ability to control temperature in different areas of the house increases this energy efficiency.
  • Effective Cooling – Ductless mini-splits are as effective at cooling as larger central air conditioning systems. You can expect the same level of performance and indoor comfort from a ductless AC system as you would from a central unit.
  • Quiet Performance – A ductless system is much quieter than central AC systems or window units. Some are nearly noiseless.
  • Versatility - Ductless mini splits have an outdoor compressor unit and an indoor air handler, similar to a smaller version of a heat pump. These units are available in air conditioning only or heat and AC when you need cooling in the summer and warmth in the winter.

Installation & Service for Ductless Mini-Split & VRF Systems

Mini-split and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems are different than traditional central air conditioning systems in a number of ways. A central air conditioning system cools the entire house and distributes the cooled air through the duct system. Ductless units provide air conditioning in specific rooms or areas, which makes ductwork unnecessary. This is particularly convenient for historic or older homes that were not built with an attic or crawlspace to add ductwork.

Your ductless mini-split system can be completely customized to your cooling needs. You can use an air handler with the outdoor compressor unit to cool one area or multiple air handlers can be installed to provide air conditioning in different areas of the house. This provides greater control over your indoor space since you can control each air handler independently.
